Hanshi Tallack Biography
Kenneth Bruce (Ken) Tallack (born 1955) was first introduced to Martial Arts in the early 1960's, when as a child, he was taken to the YMCA in London, Ontario. His interest in Judo and other Japanese Martial Arts eventually overwhelmed all of the other areas in his life. It became his hobby, his lifestyle, and his vocation. From 1967 forward, Ken Tallack practiced the Northern Shao-Lin Five Animal style, as taught by the members of the Chong family and the Canadian Karate Kung-Fu Association. James Morton Biography
James Robert Ross Morton, began his training when he was 15 years old under Hanshi Tallack and the instructors at the Martial Arts Learning and Fitness Center. Very quickly, he realized that Karate was far more than a hobby and began applying himself to his training as well as assisting with classes as much as possible. At this time, he decided that one day he would own a Dojo. He attended demos, Tournaments and many other events to assist and compete.
In 2003 he received his First Degree Black Belt ranking through Hanshi Tallack and the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai, the official Martial Arts Body of Japan. This same year he was accepted into Queen’s University and juggled a busy school schedule with training, receiving the Second Degree Black Belt in 2006.
After successfully graduating from Queen’s University with an Honors Degree in Computer Science, it became clear to him that Martial Arts was going to be the main focus of his life. He is now co-owner and the lead instructor at Tallack Martial Arts under Hanshi Tallack and getting married in August. He currently holds the Third Degree Black Belt in Karate, the Third Degree Black Sash in Kung Fu and trains in Jujutsu and Iaido.
Melanie Loxton Biography
Melanie Loxton began her training at a local Tae Kwon Do school the age of 17 in Crescent Valley British Columbia. After a year and a half a move took her away from her training. Eventually settling into Ontario, her new house, and her Marriage, she was ready to pursue her passion for the Martial Arts. She began her training in Goju Ryu Meitoku-Ha under Hanshi Ken Tallack. After a few months of Karate training she was introduced to her first weapons class and continues to train in both Karate and Kobudo. A year into her training she was approached by Hanshi Ken Tallack and was offered a position at the Tallack Dojo as a Karate Kids instructor and receptionist. This was a life changing opportunity that she took advantage of and turned into her career. 2009 proved to be a pivotal year for Melanie. In May 2009 Melanie Loxton along with James Morton became Co Directors of Tallack Martial Arts, where they continue the teachings of Hanshi Ken Tallack today. In June 2009 Melanie successfully completed her examination and received her First Degree Black Belt from Hanshi Ken Tallack.
Renshi Rob Tallack Biography
Renshi Robert Tallack has studied Martial Arts all of his life. He was born into a family of Martial Arts professionals. Robert's mother, Sharon Berman, is a 4th Degree Black Belt, and his father, Hanshi Ken Tallack, an 8th Degree Black Belt. During the month of May, in 2004, Robert graduated from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He ran 5k three times per week, set a new personal best when he bench pressed 350 pounds, and when he landed a full standing back flip for the first time. He was able to accomplish all of this while teaching regular classes at his new full-time Dojo on Princess Street and at his Public School “ Karate Kids ” programs.
